I got the scrapping bug while I sat on the couch and nursed little Miss this afternoon.

This 1st one will go in Merry Layne’s baby book

and this one will either go in Joy Lynn’s toddler album or I will stick it in our 2012 family album this year. I am kind of in a transition with the children’s albums right now and I have not made up my mind which route to go.

Family Yearbook Page

This week the children will be taking school photos. which also means that it is time for us to turn in our annual family page for the yearbook. I have not scrapped in forever so this was fun for me.

Some of you that have been reading our family’s blog for a while now know that I have been doing these fun photo projects - Project 365 in 2009 and last year’s weekly Project Life – for the past few years. I never did a great job keeping up with them online but I must say that these are 2 of my favorite albums that we have and I really do treasure these daily + weekly glimpses into our lives that we captured for the past 2 years.

So this year, I wanted to do things just a little bit different. I am going with a theme each week and hopefully this will be a fun way for me to tell more of our family’s stories in 2011.

So be sure to click on that little Project Life tab up there at the top of our blog each week for updates.

October Project Night

Let’s get a jump start on those Christmas gifts. Come on over to my home and we will start and finish a project and you will be ahead of the holiday rush!

This month we will be creating calendars. A custom calendar is the perfect way to showcase and enjoy your photos and memories all year long. They also make perfect gifts for family members because you are able to keep track of dates like birthday and anniversaries that are special to your family.

When: Tuesday, October 12th ~ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Where: Jamie’s Home ~ Contact me for directions.
What To Bring: All you have to do is bring your laptop with the photos that you plan to use. Don’t have a laptop? That is fine, just bring the photos you want to use on a CD or flash drive and you can use mine.
Cost: There is no fee for this workshop. The only cost will depend on the printing of your calendar(s). See details below.

This workshop is already filling up fast so please contact me to reserve your seat!

Details:

You will be able to choose from 2 sizes this year – 8x12 or 12x18. Both will have the unique perforation that allows you to remove the page from the calendar grid and then slide it into a regular album.

This is a great time to make your calendars because they are on sale this month for 20% off.

How many photos should I bring for each month? That is a great question! I would recommend 5 - 7 photos for each month. You will not actually use all of these. It really just depends on the page design for that month. I would rather you bring too many than not enough.

Autumn is here! I just love this time of year, don’t you? School is back in session, you are packing away all of your summer beach gear, and the nights are getting cooler (well at least, they are supposed to be getting cooler). Ha!

This is also the perfect time of year to work with your photos and my fall customer appreciation event – Croptoberfest – is the perfect place to get it done! Yearbook Page

You may remember this post from last year. Well, it’s time time again!

Here is this year’s family page for our school yearbook. We got cut down to a half page this year so I figured with a lot less space than past years that I would go with a super simple layout this time around.

I know it is simple (and kind of boring) but I thought it turned out cute. The boys have individual yearbook photos today so I hope those turn out well.

I have some new and exciting news to share with you all today. As many of you already know, I really enjoy scrapbooking and preserving my family’s stories in albums. I also love to take photos to capture those memories. I get asked all the time how I manage our family’s photos and keep up with our albums. In order for me to share my love of photos + organization, I have decided to share some of my 10+ years of knowledge and storytelling passion with others. I have really wanted to do this for some time now (no perfect time like the present, right?) but I need YOUR help!!

I realize that some (or maybe even all) of you reading this right now are probably on top of your photos. You are scrapbookers who love to tell the stories behind your photos. But there are so many of your family and friends who are NOT like you and me. They want to enjoy their family’s photographs just as much as we do but they are overwhelmed and do not know where to start. So who do you know that…

Has all of their photos stored in boxes, envelopes, and bags?
Watches their babies grow up in that tiny little screen on their camera?
Would like to have their stories written down for future generations?
Is waiting for just the right time to start that photo organization project?

I made a few different versions of Joy Lynn’s birth announcements this afternoon. Once I got going, it was just so much fun and I could not stop. I really do like all of them so my only problem now is deciding which one to print out and send to our family and friends.

Here is another quick page that I created this afternoon. We are expecting some really bad weather here in our area in just a little bit so it has been an inside kind of day here at our house. While the girl napped and my boys watched Stars Wars for the 1st time ever, I whipped up this fun page while resting on the couch and counting contractions. How is that for a multi-tasking mom? Ha!!

Let Class Begin…

Well almost. It actually begins this Thursday but I have been busy as a bee with my pre-class assignments for the past 2 weeks. Some of you may be scratching your heads so let me back up just a little bit…

The class that I am talking about is called Library of Memories. It is taught by the one and only Stacy Julian over at Big Picture Scrapbooking. It is more or less based on Stacy’s book – Photo Freedom – which is a big picture approach to organizing and scrapbooking your photos. I first read this book and started implementing my library in 2008, took the class in 2009, and now this year (2010) I will be coming back as an alumni.

Yes, I love the concept that much!

You see… I am not “caught up” with my scrapbooking. If I even let that thought enter my mind that I needed to be caught up with our family’s albums and layouts, then this fun hobby of scrapbooking would no longer be just that – a fun hobby! I know that I will never be “caught up” so to say and this is the exciting part to me. If I were all caught up, that would be a very, very sad day, don’t ya think?

There are just so many hours in the day and as I am learning more and more… So many precious hours here with my babies. Oh my, they do grow so fast! I love combining our photos + words to tell our family’s stories but I would much rather be out there creating those memories with my precious family. So here is my question for you all this week…

Are you out there fully embracing those sweet moments of everyday life and
are you scrapbooking those moments that are the MOST IMPORTANT to you?

Oh and while I have your attention, here is 1 more for ya…

What is scrapbooking to you?

I would love to hear your responses on all this. It really is a fascinating concept to me.

More on all this later… I plan to share some more reasons why I love this system and some of my Photo Freedom tips as the class goes on.

A Year of Memories…

Here is a look at the 2010 calendar that I made for gifts this year. I have made these for the past 3 years for our family and they now “expect” one from us each Christmas. (Josh even has one hanging up at work.) That’s fine by me… I love the way these turn out each year and it is such a fun way to keep track of family anniversaries/birthdays.

Details for some of you… They are 8.5x11 in size and I have them printed with our family anniversaries/birthdays on them. I include pictures from the previous year for that particular month. So for example, the January 2010 calendar page actually includes photos from January 2009. I love to look back each month to see what we were doing this time last year.
